Ranking, Link Building & Google Analytics

This week, we studied ranking and link building, as well as Google analytics.  For my web business blog, my link building strategy is going to be very simple.  I will focus on posting popular recipes and meal pictures on Pinterest.  I will also be using Pinterest to follow the current recipes which are popular.  The idea of this is to first, increase my follower base and create a community where we share recipes and cooking ideas; and second, get lots of links to my blog circulating on the web for people to come across.

We also had a project where we used a trial account on Google analytics to answer some questions about the characteristics of their website viewers, purchases, and success of various aspects of the website.  I ended up really liking this activity and I learned a lot.  Google analytics is a great and powerful tool from which you can obtain lots of very useful data to implement in the running of your web business, no matter its size.  A few pieces of information you can gain from this tool are the countries which view your website; how many website visitors are repeat or new; in what age group the majority of your visitors are; why visitors abandon at check out; etc.

There are many simple changes you can make from this information.  One idea is as follows; you begin your men’s dress tie business with the targeted audience being men, ages 18-26, selling a wide variety of dress ties.  However, with Google Analytics, you find out that more than half of your audience is women in that age range (brides who have discovered that your website is a great source for ties for their groomsmen).  So, you change your audience and focus on that new audience.
